Published widely in Soil Science (as of September 2021, published one book, co-edited three journal special issues, 255 refereed papers, 241 conference papers and 26 consultancy reports). Referee for 59 journals and member of the Editorial Board of 25 journals. Jointly supervised 30 PhD theses to completion and been Examiner for 36 PhD theses. External Examiner in Physical Geography (BSc and MSc) at Coventry University and Edge Hill University. Received research grants from over 30 institutions, principally the European Union. Vice-President of the European Society for Soil Conservation (ESSC), UK Representative on the Council of the ESSC, Editor-in-Chief of the ESSC Newsletter and Vice-President, Councillor and UK Representative of the WASWAC. Elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, as a Fellow of the Royal Biological Society, as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and as an Academician of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Joint Winner of the ‘Gerold Richter Prize’ from the ESSC (May 2015), winner of the First ‘Antonio Teixiera Guerra’ Award from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (April 2017) and winner of the ‘Friendship with Yunnan Award’ from the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, P.R. China (November 2017).
