About Me
I studied geology and then applied geology but have spent most of my academic and professional career working in shallow soils. I am a rarity in that I appreciate the value of different approaches to understanding that solid, liquid and gaseous multi-phase medium we call soil. I have worked on EU projects to understand the demands on soil, the pressures on them and the management tools we need to steward them for future generations. As a terrain analyst I study their effects on vehicle movement and performance and on excavatability. I study soils as geological hazards and as attenuators of pollution - protecting our surface and ground water.
